Alastair McKnight - Chipping norton
Alastair McKnight, aged 66 from Chipping Norton was referred to Chipping Norton Leisure Centre this year by his GP following an accident 2 year ago in which he lost his leg. Alastair was using gym equipment at home to try and build strength in his upper body to aid walking and movement but felt that a programme devised by a qualified Fitness Instructor would help speed things along.
Alastair said "Everyone should try as hard as they can and make every effort to get fit in whichever way they can - then there'll be less demand on the NHS!"
Alastair now visits the gym 2-3 times a week for an hour and finds the staff very helpful and supportive. He continues: "The gym at Chipping Norton is very friendly, there's a good cross-section of people using it. It's accessible too- I can easily get here from where I live and park right outside the door in the designated disabled spaces."

I go to the gym at Chalfont Leisure Centre regularly, at least few times a week. The gym staff are always there for support and the new equipment is very good. I have also attended studio classes which are great, and I would recommend this gym to anyone.
Dave Henderson- Carterton Leisure Centre
Dave first joined the gym at Carterton Leisure Centre in 2004. After doing his own thing and suffering from a lack of motivation he started a heart rate zoned training programme with Ane.
During this he lost and amazing two stone! He then focused on his nutrition and dietary requirements. With these changes in places circuit training was then added. His programme then progressed and developed and now alternates between cardio and weights sessions.
Dave credits the gym team with keeping him motivated and on the path to success " I have regular training reviews with the instructors who keep me motivated and are always enthusiastic and full of energy even at 6.30am!"
Last year Dave added weekly Boxercise sessions into his routine which are a great mix of cardio and strength work. Dave says "I thoroughly enjoy the nature of the classes and the banter within them with other members"In total Dave has lost an Amazing three stone and 5 inches. This is an amazing achievement and we are all proud of what he has and continues to achieve.

I joined the Nexus Community gym at Chalfont Leisure Centre in November 2010. I had taken out a gym membership elsewhere in the past but didn't really enjoy the experience and typically fell into the "I'll go tomorrow" category!
Not convinced this would be any different, I decided to try the Chalfont Leisure Gym and from the start it actually was different. The induction was enthusiastic, the fees were realistic and the equipment and facilities were excellent - just going through a major refurbishment. For me, as a middle aged woman, the last thing I wanted was to feel intimidated but that just wasn't an issue there. A wide range of people use the gym - all shapes, sizes and ages and there is a very friendly atmosphere.
Without a doubt the main factor in the appeal of the gym is the staff. There is a young team lead by Chris who are friendly and fun but professional and competent and always on hand for advice.
Ok - I had got to the gym but to keep coming back was a potential problem. I therefore enlisted some personal training and what a plan that turned out to be ... My personal trainer, Lizzie encouraged me week by week to push myself to do more. I picked up a heavier weight and increased the settings on the cross trainer - In the past I would have sat comfortably in my comfort zone congratulating myself on just having turned up !! I have sweated, panted and laughed through the PT sessions and am slowly seeing and feeling the benefits in my body. The extra unexpected surprise is the psychological reward - the sense of achievement and the well being is a real bonus and definitely worth all the hard work !!

I've been coming to Chalfont Leisure Centre for the past 3 years and have noticed massive improvements in various areas of my life. My confidence has increased vastly due to my physical fitness and the support of the instructors. I incurred an injury during trampolining to my lower back prior to joining the gym and due to the help and support I have received I have strengthened my core muscles and in return have noticed marked improvements in my spine. The recent refurbishment saw the introduction of the power plates to the gym, these machines are fun, challenging and effective which are all encouraging me to train more effectively.
