South Bucks District Council
Message from Councillor Shorne Tilbey
Portfolio Holder for Community - South Bucks District Council

At South Bucks District Council we use sport & leisure as an important vehicle to deliver on a wide range of objectives; this includes working towards a thriving local economy, safe local communities, cohesive & strong communities and improved health and wellbeing.
With public sector expenditure tightening the need for the Council to identify and work with partners to maintain and deliver high quality services is critical. We consider Nexus to be a good partner who share the Council’s ethos to deliver effective and efficient quality services that make an important and positive impact on people’s lives.
So many positive things have come out of our partnership with Nexus; in particular free swimming is currently available to our younger and older residents at local Nexus pools and an excellent refurbishment of the gyms at the Evreham Sport Centre in Iver and The Beacon Centre in Beaconsfield is testament to the joint commitment to improve services for local people.
South Bucks is very proud to be a Host 2012 Council with the Rowing, Paralympic Rowing and Canoe Sprint events due to take place at Dorney Lake during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. With our partners we will endeavour to ensure that our residents benefit from the social, economic and sporting and cultural benefits of the games.
In the current difficult economic climate it is important to have productive relationships with key partners like Nexus. We hope to have many more productive years working in partnership with Nexus.
