Swimming Stages
Stage 1
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For children 5 years and over, Complete new starters and those not confident moving around in the water. Children over the age of 4 in full time school, if they have attended pre school classes.

Stage 2
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For children 5 years and over, confident moving around the water but are still non/weak swimmers unable to travel 5m on front and back with floatation aids. Children over the age of 4 in full time school, if they have attended pre school classes and are confident using floatation aids.

Stage 3
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For children who have achieved Stage 2 Or Able to travel 5M on both front and back with the use of aids, push and glide prone/supine able to regain standing from prone/supine and blow bubbles into the water.

Stage 4
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For children who have achieved Stage 3 Or Able to travel 10M on front and back unaided with a basic technique. Confident to jump in and happy to submerge.

Stage 5
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For children who have achieved Stage 4 Or Able to kick 10M front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Swim 10M of a stroke with good technique and can complete both log rolls and headfirst sculling.

Stage 5A
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For children who have completed Stage 5 Or Able to kick 10M front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Swim 10M of a stroke to ASA standard and can perform all three sculls.

Stage 6
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For children who have achieved Stage 5A Or Able to swim 10M front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly (all with good technique). Able to confidently tread water and perform somersaults backwards and forwards.

Stage 7
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For children who have achieved Stage 6 Or Able to swim 25M correct technique of at least 2 strokes and 10M correct technique of other 2 strokes. Able to surface dive to the bottom of the pool, fully deep water confident and able to swim with clothes on.

ADVANCED SWIMMING PROGRAMME
Classes available for swimmers who have achieved stage 7
Or are competent swimmers in all strokes and confident in deep water.
National Plan Stages 8,9,10 - These aquatic discipline specific progressive stages are subject to availability at each centre,(Competitive Swimming/Flip n Fun / Aquafun / Rookie Life Saving/ Mini Polo)
Advanced Swimmer Classes - These classes enable the swimmer to participate in other areas of the aquatic programme such as the Challenge Awards and Advanced Water Skills Awards. Swimmers will be able to improve their fitness whilst learning new skills and working on their strokes.
Pupils that are currently in Levels 8-12 of the Old plan may continue to progress through these levels, with the additional Advance Awards and Skills included in their lessons (subject to availability).
