Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong and based in Austin, Texas, LIVESTRONG® fights for the 28 million people around the world living with cancer today. LIVESTRONG connects individuals to the support they need, leverages funding and resources to spur innovation and engages communities and leaders to drive social change. Known for the iconic yellow wristband, LIVESTRONG’s mission is to inspire and empower anyone affected by cancer.
Some interesting facts:
- In 1997 the Lance Armstrong Foundation(LAF) is Launched
- In 1999 Lance Armstrong wins the Tour De France Less then three years after being diagnosed with cancer
- In 2003 www.livestrong.org is launched as an online resource for cancer survivors
- In 2004 the LIVESTRONG Yellow band campaign begins
- In 2005 55 Million Yellow Wrist Bands are sold
- In 2005 Lance Armstrong wins the Tour De France a record breaking seventh time
- In 2006 the LIVESTRONG Challenge is launched
- In 2009 the Lance Armstrong Foundation(LAF) goes by the name of LIVESTRONG
