Low level traversing
Involves climbing across a vertical wall, 8.6 metres long x 2.4 metres high. No roped protection or impact matting is used for this activity due to the perceived low risk.
Bouldering
Involves climbing to the height of up to 5 metres above an impact mat. Participants will also be given roped protection to enable them to be lowered from the walls. Participants will be supervised.
When participants have shown the instructor they are competent and safe, they can experience bouldering without the safety rope. Falls can occur.
Top roping
Involves climbing on the 11 metre walls with roped protection. The instructor will teach the participants the correct techniques for controlling the ropes and belay device. All participants will be taught how to use all essential climbing equipment.
Lead Climbing
Involves climbing on the 11 metre walls, with roped protection. Lead climbing requires the participant to attach the rope to the protections points at regular intervals on the wall as they progress up the climb, initial lead climbs will involve the use of a top rope as a fall protection measure. Sessions will also include instructions in the correct techniques for controlling the ropes for a lead climber.
